Join The Healthy Happy Kidz Community & See What’s For Dinner For Kids With Diabetes
Sterling, VA (PRWEB) April 2, 2011
A new website, Healthy Happy Kidz, offers a place where parents with children who are managing diabetes can go and share recipes, snack ideas and other food recommendations.
With the number of diabetes cases poised to explode over the next few decades, the dietary needs of children managing diabetes is a growing concern. Closely monitoring carbohydrate intake is the cornerstone to a healthy diet for someone with diabetes. Yet finding foods and meal ideas to satisfy the tastes of kids and the rest of their families can very difficult.
“If everyone ate the diet required to keep diabetes on track, most of us would lead much healthier – and happier – lifestyles,” says Melissa Arnold, co-founder of Healthy Happy Kidz. Ms..Arnold, a cook at heart, came up with the idea for the Healthy Happy Kidz site after her oldest son was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and she went searching for recipes that were good for him to eat and that the rest of the family would like. When her search turned up little, she decided to collect her own recipes.
“There a several sites that cater to cooking for adults with diabetes,” continues Beth McNamara, who has partnered with Ms. Arnold to launch Healthy Happy Kidz, “but none focus on the needs and tastes of kids with diabetes and their families.”
Healthy Happy Kidz encourages parents to submit recipes and other food ideas to share with other families in the diabetes community. Recipes and ideas can be submitted or found at: http://www.healthyhappykidz.com.
